Overall, almost 70% of the entire ROW remains undisturbed, making trenchless pipeline the most environmentally responsible choice available. All existing grades and contours across ephemerals, creeks and other watersheds are maintained and projects are not contingent on frozen conditions – meaning pipelines can be installed year round, regardless of ROW condition.

By design, Trenchless Pipeline requires the clearing of only a 5 meter wide Right-of-Way (ROW) – 67% less than conventional methods that require a minimum ROW of 15 meters. Trenchless Pipeline generates time and cost savings in a wide variety of facets including; land acquisition, ROW preparation (clearing, stripping, grading), final grading and continued ROW maintenance.

Vibratory Hole Packer - Another Down Hole Solution
Developed for our Trenchless Pipeline service lines, the Vibratory Hole Packer (VHP) combines the vibratory compaction methods of civil construction with directional drilling dynamics. The VHP design enhances borehole stability when drilling in displaceable soil conditions, reduces product pipe interference and maximizes coating integrity.
In displaceable soil conditions, compaction techniques stabilize the borehole during the pullback process and prepare directionally drilled holes for the installation of pipeline sections. Traditional compaction style reamers provide minimal compaction time before swelling of the soils occur. For decades, these tools have been effective for short installation lengths only and their limitations have caused inadequately prepared bore holes – resulting in unusable pipeline sections and compromised external coating integrity.
Our proprietary VHP utilizes vibration and fluid veining to achieve compaction over greater distances and has been successfully field tested in over 900 kilometers of trenchless pipeline installation to date. Our innovative technology increases the installation length capability of composite pipe systems within the manufactures pull load specifications and increases the installation length of single yellow jacket coated steel pipeline sections to over 1400 meters.
The VHP tool design extends up to 8 feet in length and up to 16” in diameter. An internal dual direction motor creates vibrations, where the rubber component is isolated to reduce vibration transfer to the pipeline section. The spiral fluid veining has been designed to allow an optimum amount of slurry to remain in the borehole, while ensuring the maximum compaction face to borehole ratio.
The Evolved VHP allows longer sections of pipeline to be installed within one bore section, and our accurate tool tracking capabilities allow for installations within the same ROW as existing lines – making pipeline replacement quicker and easier than ever before.
Pipe ramming is a versatile technology for trenchless installation of steel casings in adverse soil conditions. Another Minimal Impact specialty – pipe ramming — works in any direction from conventional horizontal pipe ramming to vertical pile driving.
As there’s typically little to no need for backstops, pipe ramming offers more flexibility when working in confined spaces or where the ramming angles do not allow for a backstop. With typical pipe ramming, air pressure is customarily used to expel the spoils inside the casing. However, depending on the size of the project we can also remove spoils using many different techniques.
With our expertise and available equipment, we have even greater flexibility to couple ramming with other technologies. For example, we can use our auger to clean out casings that have been rammed into place. Pipe ramming can also assist directional drilling applications where rocky soils are present. The rammer creates a “clean hold” so the directional drill can more effectively do its job.
We provide the most effective way to replace or upsize existing aging water and sewer infrastructure with both static and pneumatic pipe bursting services. Through innovative technological advancements, we have capabilities ranging from nominal 50mm – 600mm ID host pipes with a maximum burst length of 200 meters. Experienced in the installation of pre-chlorinated water main burst sections our pipe bursting services offer cost effective solutions towards the following applications:
- Ductile Iron
Slip lining is offered as one of our trenchless pipe rehabilitation methods for water mains, sewers, gas mains, storm water lines, etc. This technique is suitable mainly for rehabilitation of oversized corroded pipes as the new liner will be smaller in diameter. The carrying capacity of the pipe would be improved, as the quality of the new inserted pipe will be much better.
Various lining pipes of corrosive resistance material may be used with this technique. Other types of pipe can be used as a liner with this technique, such as HDPE, Flex Pipe, Flex Steel, steel, clay, etc. The slip lining technique is suitable for pipes of 150mm to more than 1500mm diameter. The installation requires only one excavation pit for the lead in trench.
Watercourse Open Cut
When subsurface conditions are not suitable to any trenchless installation method, we have the experience and equipment to complete the installation. Having developed practices and procedures to minimize Harmful Alteration Disruption or Destruction (HADD) of habitat, our open cut methodologies can complete projects on time and on budget with the absolute minimal environmental impact.
